Early childhood education: Tauheed part1

  • 2
ilmu tauhid dlm diri anak-anak. It is also a part of ECE.

Persoalan yg timbul dlm fikiran ramai ibu2 adalah:

1)bila
2) bagaimana

Saya sendiri pernah bertanya soalan yg sama masa mengandung anak
sulung.
Saya seawal 4minggu usia kandungan dah fikir mcm mana environment yg saya nk
utk anak2 membesar.Persekitaran islamic, cemerlang ukhrawi dan
duniawi..then mcm mana nk capai itu semua??Sampaikan 9bulan mengandung
rasa sgt cepat berlalu.Pengalaman mengandung sgt seronok..saya suka stimulate
baby dlm perut;) ckp2dgn baby, bercerita etc.

Bila nk mula pendidikan tauhid??
Saya memang percaya dgn kebolehan bayi sejak dlm kandungan.makin awal

soalan.termasuk soalan pelik2 yg menggambarkan mereka berfikir
sebenarnya.

Tahap pertama mereka akan absorp.beri tahu saje segalanya mereka akan
absorp.

an utk dimakan..subhanallah.."

Pasti anak akan diam sebentar sbb berfikir;)

Berbandibg,
"adik xsolat mesti Allah hukum adik, nanti kene bakar dlm
neraka.."

suruhan Allah.

Tips bagaimana betsambung post seterisnya...

mari share tips ibu2 yg membaca ni ..mcm mana anda tanamkan tauhid dlm diri anak2?

Ibu yg mengajar atau mendidik?

umar solat jemaah with ayah:)

didik:kita ajar mereka faham dan kita follow up dgn pastikan mereka

Contoh solat.kalau ibu yg mengajar, kita ajar mereka tentang

mother's monologue

  • 5

This post was save in my draft for quite sometimes. As I remembered this was written when i read a post in another blog about a mom in doubt on her ability to be a good mother to her child.

-----------------------------------

There's no such thing as good or bad mom. As long as we do our best for our kids, we are the best mom for our own children.

Never tend to be like someone else because our situation and theirs are different. Each of our kids' character also is different from each other. Further more our kids and other kids from different upbringing environment.

Appreciate everything that we have in hand and never complaint. For example, if we have only 2 solid hours to spend with our kids, utilise that golden moments fully. Never compare our life with others. The outcome of everything we do is in Allah's power. Even if we spend everything we have for our kids but if Allah wants a different path and destination for us we will be in His path, always have strong faith that Allah knows what is best for us.

cloth diaper

  • 2

thariq wearing CD..sorry for the bad quality pict, camera not functioning!!

This is my first time using cloth diaper and I strongly recommend it for our kids. Why?

1.hygienic- easy to clean and easy to use

2. I can closely observe my son's stool colour to ensure he had enough of the foremilk+hindmilk= mustard colour

3. gentle to baby's skin- no more diaper rash. Both my sons's skin is sensitive to chemical e.g. powder, diaper etc. With cloth diaper alhamdulillah no more rash but of course both CD and Disposable diapers need frequent changing ok..if baby using wet CD/Disposable diapers for hours he definitely will develop rashes!

Umar had a try wearing CD, he likes it so much!his comment: "lembut la pampers butang ni ummi..cantik warna dia"..;)

4. good for our nature- I had no guilty feeling inside because my bin will not be full of disposable diapers anymore!

5. save $ a lot!- hubby no more need to buy the diaper frequently as these CD can last until thariq is 3 years old..insyaAllah..hubby like it so much..heh

6. cute- i like the various design and the colourful pattern especially on the drying line...

Healthy Emotions

  • 2

I think this topic is very important for mothers. No matter FTWM or SAHM or WAHM. When we are are emotionally healthy, we have better control of our feeling and behaviour. This is vital for us as a mother especially those shouldered the title of super-working-mom.

Can we imagine, after a very hectic routine at work, came back home with a long list of house chores to settle plus young kids desperately need our attention. This is a common but challenging moment that highly need healthy emotion skills.

Some tips to share:

· Taking care of physical health - when exercise endorphins are released. A hormone that may lift the mood.

· Get adequate nutrients. Simple supplement may help.

· Spend time outdoor everyday even only for 10 minutes.

· Sleep and rest well

· Make time spent alone a meaningful ,productive and enjoyable moment.

Cultivate a good balance between responsibilities and the things we enjoy.

Last but not least: be close to Allah!!:)

So Many Questions

  • 2
"Encouraging our child to ask lots of questions helps him become a stronger thinker"- Bill Zimmerman

Like other kids out there, Umar is now at the stage of asking a lot of questions. Most of his questions is the "why?" questions. It is challenging for mr hubby and I to answer all his questions. I personally encourage him to ask questions on his surrounding by explaining things to him..and now he demands the explanation for almost everything:)

Many parents sometimes complained of being tired and tedious to answer the kids questions. I remember when I was a kid, I was also a kid who loves to ask and talks a lot. I remember my parents always said "dia berhenti ckp bila dia tidur je" (with smile and love tones).. but they never resent me without an answer for my every question.

Then now it comes to my turn and I actually enjoy this phase. It is just that sometimes I did not have the answer for his Q's. I would try my best to answer them as what my parents did before and I could still feel the feeling of loves and cares when my questions been answered.

I will always remind myself not to stop Umar from asking and try to answer his questions sincerely. In one day he'll ask on just anything he sees. He even asked a lot about his younger brother..he asked my obstetrician when and why questions on the baby.

"when baby will come out?from where?why he needs to be in the tummy for so long? will the doct cut your tummy to get the baby out?" ..list goes on..

Here we should remind ourselves to try to entertain all the questions sincerely and be patience. By doing this we actually encourage our child to gain control over his world, learns to think critically and learns the complexities of life.

Enjoy answering our child brilliant questions!

Early childhood stimulation

  • 0
I was browsing and reading on a forum regarding early childhood education and I realized that some mothers view early childhood education as 'teaching' their child early with books etc. Some says that they scared to practice this as it may cause their child to become 'weng' (mental problem).

It is actually more than that. It is not so rigid where we only teach using book, maths cards.
I personally view this as an early childhood 'stimulation'. Stimulation can be done in many ways and it is important besides the loves and care we provide for our kids. Even our daily interaction, touch, and contact with our child since age 0 may be considered as early childhood stimulation.

Even if we use flash cards it does not really mean we 'teach' the baby but actually we stimulate them. For example, a newborn, their vision is very limited. They can not see many things yet and only black and white colours. It is good to stimulate the vision development by showing the flash card on many shapes and characters with black and white colours. The main purpose is to enhance the eye development and not definitely to make the child 'learn' as in the literal meaning.

The more we stimulate our child, the better they develop their senses and indirectly stimulate their brain cells thus improve the neurons connection..

above just my own personal opinion..

their work is play

  • 0
Hubby and I was talking about umar's toys one day. Then he came out with this story on one of his friends whom decided not to buy any toys for his newborn son until the age of 3 years old and he planned to straight away buy books for him at that stage.

It is up to the parents how they wanna up-bring their children. It is un
deniable that parents nowadays aiming high for their child especially with a lot of competitions out there.

mirror is a good 'gadget' to teach kids that they are an individual
and seperated from the image in the mirror;)

This is just my two cents opinion on this issue. Kids learn trough play. Even in Islam, Prophet Muhammad advised that for seven years of their life, parents are to play with their children, for the next seven (until the age 14) to teach them, and from the age of 14-21, to be their friend. They need stimulation through their senses. This process does not definitely needs expensive gadget or toys from the shops but provided that parents has the creativity, anything in the house maybe used to stimulate your child.

example of utilizing home stuff as toys- "matching lids"

Alhamdulillah, we are so lucky to have very good akhawat and friends while we were in Aussie, Umar had a lot of toys as a gifts from aunties and uncles. All the toys has educational values in them and are good qualities stuffs. They were kept in good condition for our future children.

The best thing is unstructured play where creativity plays a role. Anything can just be everything. E.g. a box can be a car, a washing machine etc. this type of play build confidence and form opinions on their own.

Here are some tips we can share on how to choose suitable toys for our kids:

  • safety first: no small components for kids below 3 years old or perhaps older, no sharp, not containing toxic stuff (i believe many parents out there are very fluent on his issue)
  • appropriate for the age and development milestone: may refer to many online information on our child development stage
  • consider the gender: but never be too rigid e.g. if our son wanna play the cooking set let him be, this may spark his creativity as well
  • educationa l values: identify the objective or areas the toys are intended to focus on e.g. motor skills, creativity etc. Avoid to buy toys that are lack of educational value and low quality.
  • many function: build and create kind of toys e.g. lego, play dough, blogs, jigsaw puzzles
  • recall our childhood: one need to think like a child to understand child completely

educational dilemma

  • 2
I guess everyone is familiar with the person name Ibn Sinna or so called Avicenna in the West who is well known of book on medicine name al Qanun fi al Tibb (or known as Canon in western) as well as Ar Rahzees the person whom discovered the origin of smallpox and showed that one could only acquire it once in one's life, thus showing the existence of the immune system and how it worked.

They all are Islamic scholars whom I believed had a great stimulation and exposure in their early childhood.

If we realized, there are differences in the educational system practiced during their time and now. In their time they were exposed to the Quran and spiritual knowledge as the first step then they were introduced to other fields e.g. arts etc. It was like an 'upside down' triangle. They learn one core subject, the Quran then others. That was the reason why they not only master the medicine but other fields as well.

But for us now, we are the 'upright' triangle. We learned many subjects since kinder age i.e. music, arts, english, sejarah, alam manusia, science etc and then as we grow up we choose the specialized area we are interested in. That is why now we even have the 'eyelid specialist'. Very sub specialization.

With this awareness, I was thinking so hard and worked out how to raise my children and applying the old system which is learning and mastering the Quran first then later come the other areas.

Some points which I found out as important area (anyone reading this may add other points which i've missed) to start from now are:

- the ability to read Quran / Arabic
-understanding of Arabic language
-master in Quranic knowledge
-study of other Islamic knowledge e.g. 'ilmu wahyu', tasawwur, fiqh etc.(yes, these are under Quranic knowledge as well)

I admit that it was quite 'late' for me to start as Umar is already 3 years old and in less than 6 months time his ability to utilize his right brain hemisphere will diminished thus I lost the opportunity to utilize his language dominant brain. But I would keep trying for umar and improve for my next child.

I am still looking for good guidance to provide my children with Quranic and other Islamic knowledge. It sound advanced but the reality is, we have to start now. It is essential to expose them with the basic as a stepping stone to move further in future. I really hope anyone reading this may share their own personal experience on this.

Update on umar progress in his Islamic study:

Umar almost finish his book 2 of al-Furqan. He shows good progress and enthusiasm even though sometimes he quite cheeky and try to avoid learning the Furqan:P. We also had started on Islamic history by reading bedtime stories on the 'stories from the Quran'. Undeniable lots of challenging questions came from him. e.g. Who is prophet ummi? where is Allah? Who is syaitan? Where is heaven? and the list goes on!

It is a good experience to know that he is thinking because he asked heaps of Q's! Alhamdulillah..

the arts of doing nothing

  • 0

Have you ever feel that you are wasting your child's time or maybe future for not doing anything on one particular day? I had this feeling before but then I've realized that doing 'nothing' is something:)

in early childhood learning process, our child learn in every single second. They learn through what they see, feels, touch, taste and smell. So don't worry if we not doing anything i.e. any specific activity with them, they are still learning something.

Indeed for young kids rigidity is a no..no..flexibility is more important. Let them explore with joy and happiness and let them be on their own foot sometimes. But yeah, not to do anything every day for long period of time may equal to not stimulating our child.

But again to emphasis, approach our child naturally. Not forcing, not too rigid and be flexible. Most important things is our warm and tender love for them.

Never be disappointed if there is time that we 'do nothing' with our child. Our attention and love are the most important factors in their life! cherish your lil one!

success depends on the little steps we take

Taking one step at a time..success depends on the small steps that we take..

In our activity together, we do it according to our interest..for example, when umar was playing with the fridge magnet, we took that opportunity to explain and play with the magnet. It was simple but interesting. Umar end up testing for every single thing in the kitchen (except the sharps) wether it is a metal or not..and he learns that magnet attract another magnet of different poles and opposed when facing the same poles..all this was just using the fridge magnet..

Even though some people may think that the activities we had together just a common sense and a boring activity but believe me for the kid it was not..the activity actually make them feel more appreciated and more enthusiastic in learning..at the same time they know how the theory is implemented in day to day life..

This simple thing in our life may make a different in our child life..kids learn when they feel like doing it and it is not wrong to have a quiet day without any activity if everyone was not in the mood..e.g. just got back from long journey etc..

enjoy the early learning experiences with your intelligent children;)

utilize their golden years!

what they need is good environtment to stimulate them!

prenatal stimulation

The first year of life is a critical time. This is the time when the brain is growing explosively. The brain literally grows by use – and if we use it, we’re going to grow it. And if you don’t use it, especially in the first 12 months, then you literally will lose brain cells – you won’t have as much brain power as you would’ve had.
– Janet Doman
I am really interested in early childhood learning. I am an early reading advocate. The learning process of a child actually starts from age 0. The vital years for kids to learn is before the kinder age, 5 years old. At this time the right brain is dominant and the brain grows rapidly.

I am not saying that after the age of 5 child can not learn but those children who can read and stimulated early before 5 years old has better performance and outcome compared to those start late.

Alhamdulillah Umar finished his first book when he was 2 years plus. He can recognise words from his flash cards earlier. There are lots of kids out there can read at younger age than umar. Anyway I am satisfied at umar's achievement as he is a pioneer in my motherhood journey;)

Since I was pregnant of umar, I have started to read many books on early years education. It is hard to find a single book or method that provide good guideline thus I have tried many ways to stimulate my son with the guide from many books.

For this pregnancy, again I started early. Not so early but since I experience the quickening. I started with the Quran recitation. There are many ways to stimulate the baby prenatally (in the womb). I have not done all but some of them.

Umar putting the earphone on my tummy. They both listening to the juzzu' Ammar from my old PDA. This encourage good bonding between baby and umar too.alhamdulillah;)

To stimulate baby we can stimulate the 5 senses:

touch:
by gently response on the baby movement or rubbing the tummy.

vision:
shine 'spft' lights to the tummy. Some medical people do not advice this as there are possibility to damage the cells. Therefore it is advisable to do it in the late pregnancy i.e. 35 weeks and above. But use light that is not to bright

hearing:
talk to your baby often, tell him story, read to him etc. Baby loves mother's voice. Listen to Quran, better if mother recite the Quran as the voice has the calming effects besides the Quran miracles.

so be creative to stimulate all the senses..

Pregnancy is an excellent experience, enjoy it and enjoy the learning adventures with your baby!

parenting book

  • 3
Some one said that it is difficult to find a detail or specific book that guides parents on what to do or not to do at certain age.

I found this book is a good one

It is true that parenting books mostly talk on general points on how to educate our little one. It is based on our own creativity to plan for our each and every child.

I presume it is because every child is different and what best for A is not surely best for B. The best way is to try and error to find out what suit for them and sometimes this process takes longer than what we expected.
A young child has many needs and active; flexibility is the key important principle. Flexible but firm on what we want to achieve on specific time frame.

I myself found that it is very tight time frame to utilise the'golden' age of a child before they reach kinder age. Especially before the age of three.
Not my main intention to make them an outstanding student at school but to stimulate all their senses. Provide sufficient love and cares and prepare them to continue the learning experience in future.

Nothing could compare the happiness and satisfaction to see umar's cheerful face, the excitement of exploring together and how he uses and links what he learned in his daily life.

To be frank I certainly feels motherhood is a really precious and enjoyable experience in a person named, "mother".Undeniable that it is a huge responsibility as it is an trust given by Allah.

The enjoyable experience of motherhood really change my view on having another child after the painful experience of giving birth. Now we are looking forward for our second caliph in the more prepared and organize manner mentally and physically compared to the first as I was still studying back then. May Allah makes both our boys a pious and musleh persons. Amin

Natural Parenting

  • 2

Now I am in my 33rd weeks of my wonderful pregnancy.I am so grateful to Allah for the nice experience and not so much sickness.

Since it is about 5 weeks more to go to reach the 'matured' pregnancy state; the 37th completed weeks, Hubby and I both start thinking on what are needed for the baby.

Alhamdulillah, from the scan it shows that we going to have another mujahid! alhamdulillah..I start to imagine that both my boys are close to each other, independent and be good muslims, InsyaAllah!

We also do not have to buy a lot of things except few new clothes and few breast feeding gadget for this baby.

Breast feeding? Yes, we are planning to exclusively breastfeed this baby. It was unlucky for Umar last time because I could not exclusively breastfeed him for long as he went back to Malaysia 3 months earlier than me and I only had little knowledge on it even though I thought I know much on it.* sob..sob*
Ayah burping umar after the breastfeeding..

As we are thinking about breastfeeding, we actually plan to make a step towards natural parenting. We planned to be as natural as possible. We are now looking for several good offers on cloth diapers. Yes, 'cloth' sound likes old style but surprisingly it allow so much to save and good for the baby and the environment too.

From lunatots.com

I have read on this to learn more and to prepare for the coming baby. Some people may ask wont it cause so much work to keep changing the diaper and wont it cause rashes.

As for Umar, even he wore disposable diapers before (as I was so ignorant on natural parenting) we changed the diaper quite frequent to avoid rash and discomfort. So I think no much different for CD.
Got the idea from my reading in Pa&Ma Magazine

Since I'll start working about 2months after the labour, I pray hard that I could practice natural parenting with strong support from dear husband! Biiznillah..

Mengenal hukum dalam Islam

  • 0

Now umar is watching CD on hukum-hukum Islam..it has been a long time since he last watched this CD..I bought it for a charity for 'anak yatim' here in Seremban. At first I was a bit reluctant to buy it but since it has Islamic value and seerah (Prophet Nuh) I hink why not give a try..

Just now we performed the Dhuha prayer together..Umar asked me:

umar: Umi solat ape ni?
ummi: Sunat Dhuha
umar: Oh..sunnah..kalau buat dapat pahala..
ummi: mana umar tahu?
ummar: mcm dalam cd tuh ckp..

Emm not bad..alhamdulillah he gains something from the cd..

When he saw the news on flood in East Malaysia, he said "Macam cerita nabi nuh je..banjir"

Then he will tell us more on what he remember from the CD..

It is not good to allow excessive tv/cd for our kids, but it may be beneficial for short duration and with ummi or ayah accompanying and explaining on what is on the show..

Choose a proper show with educational value! Wallahualam..

in love with motherhood

  • 1
When I review my blog,I realize that I've been posting up many entries on my beloved son umar. It is not my intention to sell our story or to show public what we did together, but instead just to share and as appreciation for him on his achievements.

I also hope it my offer some ideas and encourage mothers, especially young mothers to appreciate their time with little one and try our best to educate our little caliphs since they are very young. No matter how bsy we are, our children are our responsibility and the trust given by our God;the almighty Allah.

I myself is only a young and 'new' mother. Three years is not enough to learn everything about motherhood but the duration has taught me a lot . I mysellf still trying and some times encounter error to find the best, enjoyable and most effective method or system for my child. It is not easy and requires sacrifice and patience.

I admit that I have referred to many books related to parenting, child development and the medicine which I studied contributes a lot in this interesting and challenging journey. What I share and practice are from what I have learned from time to time.

Hope the points may benefit or spark the spirit of motherhood for our satisfaction in future. There's no wrong in trying to be the best mother for our children but the ultimate outcome is from Allah. So lets pray hard!

ummi: "saje nak cantikkan tandas and senang nak siram. air dekat jek"
umar: why u put on there?
ummi: for the plant to get the sunlight
umar: sun dari mana?
ummi: tu dari tingkap

umar: oo, ok..nape xletak luar je?

huhu..my son has grown up now..asking lots of questions! I enjoyed it though!

umar sleeps alone

  • 0

Thanks to Allah for another day to live in this world.

When we first moved to this house, we have decided for umar to sleep in his own bedroom.
I had this soft spot in me where I feel pity to him as I was afraid if my baby would think that we were abandoning him.

Hubby is a determined person and he always motivate and help me to deal with my own feeling.
Realizing the importance and the benefit from this 'step' I tried my best to hold my emotion and support this process.

Alhamdulillah since umar was 1year 11months old we managed to put him to sleep in his own bedroom.

100_2613

*this was when he is few months old, the bed was not lowered down yet..need full monitoring*

what we have tried to encourgae him to sleep alone were:

1. spend one to one time with him and explain that he would sleep in his own bedroom. It is special for him and exclusively decorate for him.

2. we included nice (but not expensive) soft decoration e.g. cartoon curtain (fish theme, blue colour), his fav books and toys, dim light, a corner for him to do his activities..his own choice.

3. spend time with him before he fall asleep to read bedtime stories (choosen stories), whisper to him when he almost fall asleep to make him feel safe and to let him know we both loves him so much..and to utilise the power of subconscious mind;)

4. ensure that he is comfortable before sleep e.g. not hungry, toilet before sleep etc.

5. in the morning he usually call us "ummi umar dah bangun" or sometime we caught him play at his activity corner as he woke up.

6. first few mornings of the process, entertain his concern about sleeping alone and explain the real situation e.g. if he scared to be alone, explain that we are just next door and Allah always with him:) ..praise him as he successfully sleep alone through the night

7. need patience as it is a challenging process initially..;) trust in Allah, your son and in yourself..work as a team with your spouse.

communicate better with your child

  • 0

we went to the nearby playground yesterday.we usually have an outdoor activity on wednesday morning either going to the park, library or buy groceries together..

not many kids around, and I've overheard this conversation between a mum and a kid while the kid navigate his kite. he is just about 5 years old.

mom: "tarik la tali tuh..kang jatuh..kalau xreti main xyah main"

son: *silent*

nowadays I've realized parents are more aware the importance of good communication with their children. The above scenario disappointing me. In my brain I was thinking

"why did you come to the playground on the first place?"

for me the answer is simple: to make my son happy and he can learns a lot of things indirectly.

But when a mother scold the child like that, it will be a bad experience or day for him or perhaps he would feel low confidence level as his own mother did not trust his capability..

poor child..

Please Allah, grants us patience to raise our children!

agar anak hidup bersama Al-Quran

  • 0

"Agar Anak Selalu Hidup Bersama al-Quran"

1.mengenalkan
bila? seawal mungkin dgn approach yg sesuai. Cth: baby- bacakan Quran dihadapn baby, toddler: beri peluang anak memegang al Quran dan ceritakan tentang Al-Quran (walaupun anak masih tidak boleh bercakap lagi)

2.memperdengarkan:

4.membaca:
seperti mengajar membaca buku.membaca Quran bersama-sama turut memberi impak positif buat anak..selain membantu anak fasih membaca secara tidak langsung keyakinan diri anak bertambah apabila membaca bersama-sama..

5.menulis:
